I got an email today saying I was on the list to participate in the beta of the Stargate video game Stargate Worlds. I applied because I am a fan of the show (all ten seasons of SG-1 are on this computer), and I was curious as to how they hell one would make a Stargate game. The game is apparently going to be an MMORPG, which just makes me more curious about how they'll pull it off. I haven't been able to find much about what it's like, but there are screenshots out already. My impression is that the game will resemble the calssic RPG, with class or races or whatever, but will involve modern styled combat.

In my opinion switches from television to game or vice versa rarely go well. However, Stargate has become more of a universe, kind of like Star Trek, than just a single show. Because of the expansive nature or Stargate and the unorthodox approach to an RPG, Stargate Worlds could still end up an amazing new game. Either way I think this game will be interesting. If you're as intrigued by this as I am, there is still a chance to apply for the Stargate Worlds Beta. Once the beta actually begins I will be sure to post about my experience.
