Source Mod: Zombie Panic! Source

1. Zombie Panic! Source
Continuing from here, this is the game that's been taking up my time for the passed two days. Zombie Panic! Source puts you and several others (depending on the server size) in the shoes of a survivor during a zombie outbreak, while one lucky person plays as the “carrier” (means he has more health and a chance to infect humans on attack) zombie. If you die as a survivor, you'll be turned into a zombie and sent to the other team. There are two game modes, but the main one you'll find is survival. The survivors will be forced to band together and barricade in a room or hide, as they try to diminish the zombies respawns to 0 before they all turn into zombies themselves. There are also some maps that will flow through linear objectives for the survivors, such as escaping an infected ship, or retrieving the virus samples and antidote from a lab and escaping via helicopter, as the zombies try to prevent their escape.

The best thing about this game (well besides the whole zombie/shootan/surivan thing) is that it really has two parts each match (well unless you manage to survive), the survivor and the zombie. Like any online fps, you'll have team voice chat, but what makes this game unique is that most servers will have it so that the zombies can hear the survivors voice chat, but the survivors can only hear their own voice chat (unless the server has all talk on, and as the laws of internet physics kick in, for every all talk server, there must be at least one mic always keyed playing music). As a survivor you will also never be able to see who's still alive on the scoreboard and won't be able to see who's been killed.....unless you watched them die. Most maps are pretty dark, but use the flash light at your own risk, it lets you see better, but it also lets others see you better. You'll find as a survivor that ammo can be pretty scarce, or that if there is a lot of ammo, it will all be for a gun you don't have. This will leave you running around with a keyboard for a weapon if you don't learn to manage your rounds well. As a zombie, you're switching from the hunted to the hunter, instead of being tense, on edge, and jumpy, you'll be able to see much clearer (thanks to zombie vision) and have the advantage in numbers and information (seeing no matter how many times you tell people DON'T FUCKING SAY WHERE WE ARE HIDING THEY CAN HEAR YOU OVER VOICE CHAT, they still say “hey quick come to the pub “Mr. I didn't stick with the group and now I'm lost” we haven't blocked the kitchen door yet”). Not to mention its just plain funny to listen to the survivors talk and/or yell as a zombie, partly because of the aforementioned complaint.

So imagine yourself thrown into a dark and desolate, deserted house. You and about eight to ten other people were barricaded in a nice little room, that was before one of your allies turned into a zombie. It appears he was attacked by the carrier and didn't notice becoming infected. You quickly dash out of the room as a group of zombies rush in to take advantage of the situation. People are yelling over chat, then it goes quiet. You're alive, and you can still hear gun shots from down the hall, but voice is quiet, and no one responds. The rooms look unfamiliar and its kind of hard to see as fog closes in around you. You keep hearing groans that come from everywhere and shadows moving at every turn, you even fire once instinctively, but your gun clicks. There is no ammo. You turn down a hallway, salvation at last, a shotgun is laying right in front of you. You pick it up, turn around and two blood splattered corpses, inches from your face, are lunging for you, as you jump in your seat in real life. The zombies quickly kill you and you switch to the zombie team, where you can hear both zombie chat and the survivor voice chat. You turn on your zombie “flash light” and go hunting, looks like there's two people left according to the scoreboard, which you can now see. Two heat sources show up, it looks like they are holed up in a room, but they are paying attention to the other door. You sneak up on them and swipe at them as you hear the shouts over voice chat and can't help but start laughing. There's just something to a game that lets you fight for your life to survive one minute and completely immerses you in a survival horror mode, then the next minute allows you to listen to your victims as you hunt them down, just for amusement.
