I have finally found information about the beta. Apparently the open beta is scheduled to start in January of February of 2009. The game is currently in the closed beta phase, and sadly I don't think there's any way I'll get to see that. The closed beta started some time over the summer, but clear information about this game is proving very hard to find. Even on the official site, most of the information is outdated and/or contradictory.

Either way, I'm sill very excited to try this game out. The more I see about it, the more hopeful I am that it will be a great game and not just another crappy movie/TV game. From what I can tell they are not trying to involve specific characters or events from the shows, which is good. I believe that is one of the major flaws with most games based on shows. It sounds like they plan on the game universe being very expansive and including many different planets. That's what I think makes an RPG great, lots and lots of places. I get bored of small playing areas and they feel to unrealistic.

This game seems to be making all the right choices with what has been done before, which is very good. However, it is also trying some very new and very different concepts. I have no idea whether they will be amazing, or go up in flames. But that wondering is part of why I find this beta so fascinating. I'm hoping it turns out to be amazing, because another great video game is always a good thing.

You may not be able to actually play the game yet, but there are several videos and screenshots available now. The best place to find them is the Stargate Worlds Community Site. This game is definitely worth checking out and there is no doubt I will be playing it as soon as I possibly can.
