Music to My Ears: The Video Game Pianist

Category: By The High Road

Remember when your mom used to make you go to piano lessons? I do and I hated it to death. Practicing scales and chords was just annoying, when I was a kid the only things that matter were sports and video games. I really didn't care to practice piano that much. So maybe you're like me.

But when I watch the Video Game Pianist, he makes me wish I payed more attention during piano lessons. So what he does is take themes from popular video games like Mario, Halo, and the like and puts them all down on piano. He's become so popular that he's performing publicly around the world. He also played with the Video Games Live Tour in 2006 and 2008.

The Video Game Pianist or Martin Leung as he is known on his W-2, started taking piano lessons at age four, and made his first performance at Carnegie Hall at age sixteen. He also can play most of these songs blindfolded. What this guy does is amazing. He makes want to start playing piano again. He is an interesting combination of passions, video games and music, but when does mix them the results are interesting.

The Bottom Line: If you like video game music, check out the Video Game Pianist.

HAHAHA!! I loved your blog!! It reminded me soooo much of my own mother making me sit down at the piano every night for at least half an hour so I would practice my chords. Just like you at the moment I hated it! It was awful my friends would call me and I would be like "sorry I cant talk now Im practicing the piano". But now when I see people like this Video Game Pianist playing all sorts of amazing pieces I really regret not having sat down every night to practice those chords. Who knows maybe well both decide to try it again in the future.

Something to say?
