S4.......again?
Ok so you downloaded the game, enjoyed it a little, but because its a Korean to European (no US version yet, not like it matters, you'll find the majority of the people in the open beta are also from the US) you're having trouble finding advice on the game besides outdated guides from the Korean client, so here's a little help.
I'll cover money management to begin with, seeing how many a player has been screwed over by wrong choices. First, do the tutorial and do the license tests. After each test, you will get a 5 hour item, you can either sell it for about 1000 pen, or try it out a little in game, then sell it for less based on how long its been used, either way you'll be using the starter weapons for a while. Once you are comfortable with what weapons you like, you should buy your first weapon, usually a main weapon you'll be using often. Your beginner weapons will expire so be prepared and buy your 2nd, 3rd weapons, and your skill when you have enough money. Also keep in mind that you have to repair your permanent weapons after every match. There are no set weapons that are “the best”, so choose what you feel most comfortable using, and what fits your play style best (thats where those trial weapons should have come in handy). Also you can do missions for quests if you need more pen, but remember all weapons and pen will be wiped after open beta.
The next thing you need to know while playing is something you've come across in other games, lag. Normally not a huge issue, sure its annoying but you can kill the dude eventually. Not so in S4, the developers thought it would be a great idea to use peer to peer hosting instead of a server to regulate client data, so your client is going to be playing the “I SHOT YOU!” “NO I SHOT YOU FIRST!” game with the other clients. When this happens you'll see a little red circle with a line through it above the player who has the lag issues with you. You are both unable to kill each other while this circle is up, well almost......there is a weapon that gets around this, Mind Shock. Just don't be the idiot who doesn't understand how lag works and act's “holier than thou” because it always has to be someone else who lags, not you.
A few other useful tidbits, you can add stat's to clothes, like in a rpg, to increase your characters strength. You can shoot through walls to an extent with sniper style weapons, so be on the look out. The ping is backwards in this game, someone with high ping (displayed by colored bars, so someone with a lot of bars) is on a steady connection. That's pretty much all you really need to learn to get started, you can also find info on the alaplaya forums, but be warned, many forums like these are plagued with stupidity that would make you want to gouge out your eyes with the closest item at hand, in my case, a half rotted apple.
