RIP Toonami 1997-2008

Category: , By Tagger

Well I hadn't intended to write about this, but last night Toonami made its final broadcast, Cowboy Bepop style. It wasn't given much warning, just a few internet rumors going around Friday and Saturday about a Toonami executive saying watch saturday at the 11-1130 time slot. Not very video game related, sure they did review some games and their shows inspired people to go out and buy games (I loved the Gundam Battle Assault's on the PS1, owning face with Master Gundam), but it was a part of a whole generations childhood (including mine) for 11 years. I still remember getting home from school looking forward to watching reboot and thundercats. I was introduced to a whole culture of video games and TV shows from watching animes like dragon ball, gundam, and rurouni kenshin. Some may say Toonami has been dead for years, and was only finally put out of its misery. Some argue whether Toonami died when Moltar no longer hosted, or after TOM 1 died or even after TOM 2 or 3 , while others blame the Saturday death slot and mooguzi for Toonami's downfall. However you look at it, if you grew up with Toonami, watching reboot, thundercats, DBZ, gundam, rurouni kenshin, or if you are part of the new generation, watching toonami as one piece, naruto, or samuri jack reruns, this video may touch you in someway, as you put on your nostalgia goggles to say good bye to a piece of your childhood. Toonami wasn't just a segment of kids shows after school, it helped influence a generation of gamers, anime enthusiasts, geeks, and just your every day people, until we meet again, space cowboy.........bang.
