Final Fantasy VI: Kefka Cosplay

Category: , , By Tagger

Usually when the word “cosplay” is thrown around, even the most hardcore gamer/comic book/anime/sci-fi geek backs away. This is true now more than ever with cheap cameras and youtube accounts (if you need proof on how horrendous cosplay can be click here, but trust me it is not for the weak hearted, expect to weep in terror as you gouge your eyes out at the “RANDUM KAWAII LOLOL NINJA XD”).

Although, like everything, there are exceptions to this generalization. This guy (CJ Collins, part of lolfilmworks) goes around dressed as kefka (no no, not the guy who wrote boring books about people turning into bugs, the main villain from final fantasy 6, you know only villain in the series to actually be completely mental, become a god, and go on a genocide across the whole world) at different conventions around the Florida area. So what makes this actually good? It's not just some kid going around in some cheesy costume, with a stale monotone voice trying to act like some popular character. Collins manages to pull off an entertaining character that doesn't feel like “hey look at me I'm *insertname* from *insert generic show/game*, aren't I so cool!”. Not to mention he actually looks/sounds like the character (even the laugh sounds right). Most of the stuff is improvised(there are a few that aren't), and pretty funny (who wouldn't find a genocidal madman dressed as a court jester who mocks and despises everything, especially ff 7 and sephiroth, funny?). Watching these, you'll find a

All these things really add together into one thing, it doesn't feel like a cosplay. Cosplays are awful, horrible things, that should be shunned and and destroyed, like fanfictions, youtube whores, and mimes (Oh my!). This doesn't feel like that, it is far from rage inducing, and pretty enjoyable. So here's some of their good videos, enjoy the psychopathic court mage.
