Another Broken Console

Category: , By ChuckSeven1
After my broken Xbox rant, this post will probably make people think that I am either really bad with electronics, or just really whiny (my xbox works fine now by the way though). My Wii is now broken, and unlike Microsoft, Nintendo will not fix it for free. The disc drive cannot read any discs anymore (and a Wii is useless without the games).

I understand that things break sometimes. The fact that it broke is not the whole reason why I am upset. As far as I can tell there is no broken Wii pandemic like the Xbox RoL fiasco. I am upset because when I get a new Wii I will end up losing much of the information stored on my old one.

Some of my game saves will not let me copy them to an SD card (and of course they just happen to be the ones I care the most about losing, dammit). Things like downloaded channels will also be lost. Some of them will copy to an SD card, but they are coded so that they only work with the Wii they were originally downloaded on. Once I get my new Wii I will be sure to contact Nintendo about this issue, but as far as my research tells me there is no solution short of paying to download them on the new Wii. This kind of stupidity fits in with all that other DRM nonsense (all of which really pisses me off as a huge waste of time and effort).

So yeah, I am not pleased with Nintendo at the moment. Luckily, I thought to get the replacement plan when I bought the Wii at Fry's Electronics. So I should be able to get a new Wii for free (but it won't be the old one or have my goddamn saves on it). Hopefully this does not end up being too huge of a setback to my Wii playing and whatnot.

I'm sorry to hear that your Wii now broke! Mine has acted weird ever since I bought it so I can agree with you about these Nintendo products. You'd think there has to be some way your memory could be retrieved. I hope everything works out for you. I liked how you brought back the DRM nonsense from the post earlier in the year...it totally makes sense now!

Something to say?
