Looking for Gore? I've Found it

It seems like there hasn't been a really good new horror/suspense game to come out in a while. Dead Space reminds me a lot of Doom, but with Resident Evil thrown in the mix. From my understanding it is a first person shooter, with less shooter. Also it offers an over the shoulder view that is technically third person, like the one featured in Gears of War. The game makes surviving challenging and interesting instead of you just shooting anything that moves. It should prove to be big on both the fear factor and the gore factor.

Dead Space's unique feature is its revolution new system for realistic dismemberment. I don't know any specifics of how it works, but it should allow for some fun tearing enemies limb from limb, literally. Actually, the enemies are some kind of undead and "strategic dismemberment" may be the only way to stop them. I don't know about you, but sometimes I just love to get a good dose of virtual gore. Not to say that this game is senseless violence and blood. With games being sixty dollars these days games like that just aren't worth it, but when a game has a strong plot and keeps the gore I think it's just wonderful. Take F.E.A.R. for instance, it was the last good game of this type in my opinion. You can blow people's limb off and steak them to walls, but there's still a real element of fear and an interesting complex plot.
What I know of the plot is that you're on some sort of space ship thing. Something has happened and you are the only one left with a horde of what are essentially zombies. The creatures are called necromorphs, and they are unusually hard to kill, even for zombies. They will not simply die, making combat in Dead Space differently complex. This is what makes the aforementioned dismemberment important, and emphasizes the wonderful gory goodness.
Here's a link to a trailer highlighting the overly gory aspect of Dead Space. I would have embedded it but you have to verify you age before the video will show, if that tells you anything about just how gory it really is. This is definitely not a game for small children or anyone who does not like gore.
