Have You Ever Heard of Zork?
My last post had me thinking about old games, and I remembered something cool I found about an old game (a really old game actually). I'm talking about Zork, also known as Dungeon. It was one the first interactive computer games. I doubt many of the people who read this will remeber or ever know of it. But I'm sure some of you have heard of those nasty creatures called grues, they first appeared in Zork. The game is available for play online at various sites, and I'm sure if you looked around enough you could find a download of it for your current computer. However, this site's version of Zork seems to be more robust than most, and even have a cool new feature. You can create an accout which allows you to save and load games, and they plan to implement chat with other players soon. Zork is entirely text based, you are given a description of where you are and what not, and you then type what you wish to do. I would not call this game fun so much as... amusing. I play it from time to time but I have never gotten very far. The game is long and involves finding and using tons of different items in specific ways. Also, I have found that navigating things such as mazes and forests with just text is very hard, and nearly impossible when you just keep getting "You see many trees all around" or some other worthless and identical description. But if you're ever bored and have some time to completely waste, or just want to show your friends how stupid it is, you should check this site out.
