No Price Cut for the Wii

No Price Drop in Sight?

I'm a cheap guy, I like to save money, and I like free stuff. Who doesn't? So when the Xbox 360 cut their prices right after I bought my Xbox I was pretty pissed. Playstation 3 also cut their prices. It pretty much a pattern in the video gaming industry to cut prices on their consoles after a few months or years to boost sales, but it seems that this notion does not apply to the Nintendo Wii.

With the Wii still widely popular and Nintendo still struggling to meet the demands of the populace it seems that there will not be any price cut in the near future. The 360 Premium console has been slashed by a hundred dollars. The Playstation 3 base model has also been slashed by $100. So why is Nintendo being so pretentious? Nintendo's President, Satoru Iwata, gives some insight,

"This is my personal thinking, but when the model's price-tag drops over time, manufacturers are telling consumers it's better to wait, and I've always thought that was a mistake," Iwata said. This seems to be an opinion one has the luxury of holding when their console is entering its third holiday season, and they still can't meet demand”

How disappointing from a consumer stand point, but from a business stand point, this decision is pretty savvy.

Bottom Line: As the holiday seasons approach, don't look for a price cut on the Wii, that is if you can find one.

I'd be more worried about them announcing/releasing a new version of it right after you buy it than them dropping the price right after buying it.

I totally agree with you. They won't drop the price in it yet because many people will still buy the Wii even at it's high price. I went shopping with my aunt this past weekend and that is the only thing my cousin wanted for his birthday was the Nintendo Wii. So instead of my aunt buying him one big thing and a couple small things like she usually does for my cousins birthday, all he got was the Wii.

I've been waiting for a price cut also because I've noticed the 360 and Playstation 3 coming down in price lately. But it was nice to see that quote from Nintendo's president and see that he's not planning on dropping the price anytime soon. I was so lucky to get one when I did because they are so hard to find anywhere! I got mine a year and a half ago after looking for one for at least 6 months. I just happened to be in Best Buy and a salesman came up to me and asked me if I wanted to buy a Wii! They just had one returned that had never been opened and he was going around asking everybody in the store if they wanted it! I was so ecstatic and bought right then! I feel so lucky because I'm sure if that hadn't happened, then I'd still be searching for one!

I wanted to buy a Wii for my three brothers for Christmas, but it's too much money for me to buy right now..They really should drop the prices and soon!
